…Oh, and chitty chitty bang bang!

Taken at bealieu motor museum, which has a cracking medieval hall, which is great for any archaically themed conferences that you may be thinking about.

Really nice people too.  V. imortant for us sensitive event organising types!

How to shoot your boss

One of the perils of the cheapskate marketeer is shooting video.  On the one hand, you want to create a professional video, on the other, you can’t bare ‘wasting’ your hard-won budget on agencies and production houses.

Nowhere is this more fretful, than when you need to do an interview – especially if that someone is a bigwig, either from inside your organisation or a customer.  You can’t afford to get it wrong, as your mistakes will become apparant either when you ask for some more time in their diary, or when they see the finished product.

Getting help

The best bet is to get help.  Depending on how much I’ve got to spend, I’ll either outsource the whole lot, or try and do a few bits myself.  I’ll give a few useful contacts (cameramen, soundy’s, editors) in a future post (shout if you want sooner), but in the meantime, attached is a few useful pointers for interviewing people: how-to-interview

Well here goes. I’m holding my nose…

…and taking the plunge!

Wow! that wasn’t so bad.  Let’s hope I don’t get water in my goggles!

So what on earth is the point to this blog?  Well for starters, I need to keep up with any new technology that may make a difference to marketing my company.  Web 2.0 has yet to really effect our market sector, but by golly, its likely to in the next few years.

Secondly, contrary to public opinion, us marketing types don’t get out much.  Sure there’s the view that we’re always organising glamorous receptions and exhibitions, but that’s the point; organising.  Which leaves very little time to swap hints and tips with other like-minded marketing souls.  And besides, who’d invite them to our parties?

Over the past few months, I have tried to get out and meet a few.  And get this: We all have the same problems!  We all have issues with maintaining the visual identity;  keeping renegede business units under control; working out how to make the nost of exhibitions and trade shows; and what on earth to do with this web 2.0 thingy.

Given I’m a bit of a dinosaur (thirty-nine this thursday – cakes and complements welcome),  I thought it would be worth sharing some of the limited bits of wisdom I’ve stumbled upon and plagarised over the past few years.  This could be because I’m tired of rewriting the same old email when someone stoops to drink from my fountain of knowledge, but I like to think that its becasue I’m a nice guy, and want to get a sharing networky thing going.

So if you’re in non-fmcg marketing, feel that no one in your org understands you, and that they got the bloody logo wrong again, please feel free to comment and suggest things we should talk about.  Future topics to include; Top tips for booth bunny’s; Standing out from the crowd; and Geoblogs: where are they now?
